Research and Bio:

Tara M. Hudiburg is currently pursuing a PhD in Forest Science at Oregon State University.

Tara completed a B.S. in Biology in 1998 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. As an undergraduate, she was the recipient of an MJ Murdock Undergraduate Research grant that funded a project on water relations and gas exchange of Red Alder and Big Leaf Maple. Her skills gained in ecosphysiological measurements enabled her to gain a position as a faculty research assistant for the Department of Forest Science at OSU under the supervision of Dr. Beverly Law soon after graduating from PLU. She completed an MS degree in Forest Science in 2007. Her thesis research examined the influence of climate, management, and forest type on carbon dynamics of Oregon and Northern California forests

For her dissertation, Tara will examine the impact of forest thinning for fire prevention and biofuels energy production on the net carbon balance of Oregon under current and potential climate conditions. This will require the introduction of age-class dynamics, and interactions between rising CO2, climate change, and disturbance history which have been identified as a critical area for new model development.
